Make-A-Wish of Western New York is the February nonprofit on The CEO Hour.  Make A Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Make A Wish serves 17-counties from Buffalo to Jamestown, Rochester to Corning / Elmira, and all areas in between. It grants about 150 wishes per year at an average cost of $7,500 but the average wish cost is rising as air travel prices increase. Wishes typically fall into 1 of 4 categories, “I wish to go”, “I wish to be”, “I wish to have”, “I wish to meet” but there really is no limit to a child’s imagination in deciding their own heartfelt wish. It does not receive any state or federal funding. That's why Joel Harper and David Mammano let us know about the agencies largest fundraiser, the March 15, 2014 Annual Gala at Locust Hill Country Club. Ten years after Derek Sivers founded CD Baby, where independent artists sell their music online, Sivers started to lose the vision for his still young company.  He says Seth Godin told him, "remaining at the helm when you are no longer involved in the company's future, is doing a disservice to the business, your people and yourself."  So Sivers sold the company for $22 million dollars...money that went into a charitable trust for music education. Sivers said he made millions on his CD Baby before the sale and is now using that money to fund his new company, Wood Egg, a series of how to do business books in Asian countries from Singapore to China.  Sivers who lived in Singapore says the secret to being successful in Asian business is to put in the time needed to create trusted friend relationships with potential clients.  This transaction takes time and energy, His other tips for success, trust but verify and be aware of the difference between delegating and abdicating. Profitable business owners know what is going on in all departments.

Don joined VisitRochester in January, 2013.  In his role, he is tasked with driving the organization to higher levels of business growth through conventions bookings, tourism marketing and event promotion to visitors. Jeffries previously served as CEO of the Rochester Broadway Theater League (RBTL) and owned Dollinger Travel for nearly 20 years.   Don will discuss marketing initiatives of VisitRochester  including the Ambassador Club program. Eaton has worked in the tourism industry for more than 30 years. Throughout her tenure, she has played an integral role in the advancement of Onondaga County as a meetings and leisure destination. Carol currently serves as New York State's Regional Tourism Project Director for the Finger Lakes Tourism Region and chairs the recently established Finger Lakes Regional Tourism Council.
